Methods of running a business vary…. I have found that the most effective method of communication & financial reporting is transparency. I use an online web portal that is accessible to team members that tracks, presents and archives all internal communications for the project and every invoice, estimate and budget update. This audit and accounting procedure eliminates all guesswork for the ongoing documentation necessary for any project. The communication trail is essential to providing clear and efficient transfer of ideas and a source of accountability for the team members.
Going into a LEED project can be confusing. There are many facets and details of the “green” enterprise that need research, focus, and deliberate action. If you are not set up for this process from the onset it is very difficult or impossible to recover the appropriate LEED credits for Certification or a higher achievement level. I took my CI test to alleviate being a recipient of soft guidance and direction from consultants and have since been able to dictate changes in projects that lead to much better end results. I have developed a “live” excel tracking system to gain real time progress for LEED projects.
Being prepared and having available systems that are simple to use are essential to organizing the copious documentation necessary for proper certification. Making smart choices from the onset gives you the advantage of a higher certification level overall.
Brooklyn Interiors takes the “green” movement seriously. We continue to challenge ourselves to excel in every division of the LEED process.
